Meet Sara "a quick i-movie"
Order a beautiful fabric...and have a local upholsterer create a custom headboard. Purchase sheets with a border in a color from your fabric...Paint your side table white, a glass vase and then snip a few palms from outside! This is from Thibaut Design / Anna French...a long time favorite designer of mine.
This year I was invited to be a judge for the Hobe Sound Chamber of Commerce's Christmas Parade. It was heart warming, hilarious and filled with Christmas spirit. As an interior designer, I judge furniture, fabrics, etc. however, judging a parade was uncharted territory for me. I was in great company with the town's most experienced "Parade Judges"! It turned out to be a wonderful day filled with small town charm.
This interior scheme would be my updated version of the decorations found in the 60's beach movies.
Can you not picture your self sipping a little Mount Gay rum and fresh grapefruit juice...with a lime and touch of bitters, while relaxing in a rattan or wicker chair? This rum recipe was given to me from "Carl" the bartender at the Angler's Club in Key Largo late 70's...a place of true Florida charm. You must take a look at Thibaut Designs website...for inspiration.
Chamber, a private room or place of official business. When I need to be alone I will "retire" to my chamber. With all the e-commerce and especially for those who work at home, joining your local Chamber of Commerce is a great idea. One of my first jobs in high school was working for the Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce. My position was to update the Official Marine Guide. This was about the time Kaye Pearson was establishing the International Fort Lauderdale Boat Show. A few years later, I found myself working in the field of yacht interiors. I shall share some of those stories in a later post.
"Where The Boys Are" a great song and beach movie filmed in Fort Lauderdale. I loved the movie and remember the city during the late 60's - tropically romantic. Sadly, over the years it changed with the usual causes of urban decay...however, urban renewal is in progress. I recently reviewed a beach front hotel for renovations and I will share some of my design concepts for the Spa.

Searching for images that would actually evoke the feelings from my childhood, I stumbled upon a photostream by Curious Expeditions on Flickr. I have perused many photo's of Savannah and these images, along with a little history, kindled my memories!
Today, my mind is on light...natural light that penetrates into a room. When I am creating an interior space plan, this is one of my first objectives. Light lifts your spirit. Natural light is best, however, the consequence is heat. Below I have introduced Provendence Bamboo Shades, New Style Hybrid Shutters and Silhouettes, all by Hunter Douglas. Add a window treatment that brings in the light, is versatile, and protects your furnishings while keeping your space cool. The fabrics are from Brunschwig & Fils, Gretchen Bellinger and Thibaut.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my experience and insights into the "world of interiors". I will bring current ideas, sources and inspiration along with influences from the past. This will provide an understanding, that interior design has many facets. I have enjoyed a career which has enabled me to work & study with talented architects, artist, graphic designers, decorators, art and antique dealers. My interests are not limited to any style or period. The key is knowing what great design or fine art looks like and then bringing it all together with harmony.
Welcome to my blog!
